Burglary on Derrydown Road

Dear Resident,

There has been a burglary.

Location: Derrydown Road

 Date/Time: Between 4:10am and 4:12am on 16/01/2024

Details:

Unknown persons have gained entry to property by snapping the lock on the front door. Offenders have then damaged an interior door and frame by unknown means causing door to fall off frame. Offenders were disturbed by occupants.  No description of offender/s.

We understand everyone living in the area is concerned and the Perry Barr Neighbourhood Team will be patrolling the area.

We need your help, if you saw or heard anything or have any other information please get in touch by replying to this message or contacting us on our live chat facility.

Please follow the following crime prevention advice.

Please lock doors and windows with suitable locks.

Do not leave a window open if you are not able to watch it, especially if it is downstairs. Many burglaries occur as a result of open and insecure windows.

The same applies to doors – many burglaries occur when entry is gained via an open back door and even via open front doors.

Consider how to prevent access to your rear garden. If they cannot get into the garden, then they cannot get to the rear of the house easily.

When you are away from your home for a period of time, let someone you trust know, and consider fitting timers on your lights.

Joining or helping to set up a Neighbourhood watch scheme.

Remember that most burglaries are opportunistic and are not planned. If you make it easy for a burglar then they will take advantage. Simple crime prevention steps will make them move on to an easier target.
Again please consider if changing door or locks the security standard is PAS24 (2012-2016) OR lps1175 rating 2 which are recommended by Secure and Design.

Officers are on active patrols in the area, if you see any suspicious activity please call police on 101. If you believe an offence is taking place always call 999.

Alternatively you can contact the independent charity crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers.uk.org.
