Update on dog seized

Hello Resident

Here's a further update about the dog we have seized in Birmingham on 13 May.

We know that people are understandably concerned and we wanted to add some clarity as we know it's a confusing picture.

We can confirm that we are investigating an incident that happened on 19 April. Initially the call came in that a dog had been attacked by another dog on Queens Park Road.

We began an investigation and spoke to both owners. The owner of the dog said that it had escaped from the back garden and it was felt that the dog at that time, could stay with its owner.

Sadly, we learned that the dog who was being treated for injuries had died a day later and our investigations are still ongoing into this incident. We will be contacting all parties about this incident to give them a full update on how that investigation is progressing.

On 5 May at Queens Park, Harborne we were called about another incident of a dog out of control and we are now connecting this incident to the same dog.

The investigation is being supported by our dog unit and on the 13 May following reports that a dog was in Sycamore Road, Bournville, without its owner and had bitten someone, we have now seized the dog.

The dog has been taken to secure kennels and an assessment will now take place. The owner has been spoken to and is helping our enquiries.

All these incidents are now being connected to the same dog.

We've also seen comments on social media about a dog being loose yesterday (14 May) in the Harborne area. As the dog mentioned above was in kennels from Monday we’ve checked our records and confirm we did receive a call on 14 May. However, the caller, prompted by seeing social media posts, called us to report seeing a stray dog over the weekend.

We understand that incidents of this nature cause real concern in the community and we would now appeal to anyone who can help us progress our investigation further to contact us by calling 101, or through our Live Chat function quoting log number 20/493155/24.
