Chelmsley Wood Team Newsletter 25th July 2024

Good Evening Resident

Chelmsley Wood Neighbourhood Team Newsletter 25th July 2024

Chelmsley Girls at Solihull Summer Fest.

The sun was out, the tunes were on and everyone was in good spirits. Solihull Summer Fest 2024 was a great family event, I do declare the folks of Solihull are the best. I can report that there was only 1 crime recorded throughout this event.

If you are attending large gatherings check out these tips

  • Minimize your belongings before you go. Whenever you attend large crowded gatherings, the fewer belongings you have with you, the less there is to keep track of and/or potentially lose.
  • Consider a specialized bag. There are purses designed to deter thieves, some have slash-proof straps and an RFID-proof compartment that will protect your credit card information from being scanned.
  •  If your purse doesn’t have the RFID technology keep your contactless bank cards in a card minder sleeve. You can buy a pack of 5 for under £5.
  • Wear your bag across your body. Keeping the strap running across your body, not over one shoulder, makes it harder for a thief to grab your bag and run with it. In addition to this, some thieves cut the straps in crowded areas so keeping your bag in front of your body, with your hand on it, makes that more difficult.
  • Conceal your belongings Finally, take steps to deter thieves from picking your pockets. Put your phone, camera, cash, and other valuables in front or inside pockets where you’re more likely to notice someone grabbing for them. If you have pockets that zip, use and zip them. Many of us keep our phones/wallets in a back trouser pocket, in a large, close crowd, that phone or wallet could be snatched or fall out and you might not even notice. Someone could be gone with your things before you've even had time to turn and look for them.
