Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands and West Midlands Police are helping to keep Coventry safe by deploying Project Servator across the city. Project Servator is a national policing tactic used by police forces across the country to detect criminal activity. The tactic is deployed in Coventry and has been used in the city and across other areas in the West Midlands since 2018. Deployments are highly visible and officers are specially-trained to spot the signs of hostile reconnaissance – information gathering that may help someone prepare to commit a crime. They include a range of resources such as uniformed officers, police dogs, drones, CCTV monitoring, ANPR and vehicle checkpoints, and plain clothes officers. Deployments are unpredictable with officers conducting patrols anywhere, at any time. Residents and visitors to Coventry might see more officers than they were expecting to but there’s nothing to worry about. Officers speak to members of the public and businesses to explain more about Project Servator and encourage them to report suspicious activity, creating a network of vigilance and making the city a difficult place for criminals and terrorists to operate. Although deployments are different to normal policing operations, they’re designed to be reassuring for the public and not cause alarm. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, speak to officers or call 101. Always call 999 in an emergency. To find out more about Project Servator, watch our video below or click here.
