Chelmsley Team Newsletter

UPDATE after last weeks newsletter where I told you about the distraction Burglary, I can now report that the male responsible has been arrested. Please continue with the safety precautions and remember “If in doubt, keep them out” and only open your door if you are certain of the callers identity.

Cards can be collected from our Libraries.

We have had our first Frosty Morning of the season so let me remind you about the risk of leaving your vehicle to warm up unattended. Offenders will drive around with all their pals on board when it is a Frosty morning, I guess they check the weather apps too! They cruise around on the look out for these vulnerable vehicles just waiting to have them jump in and drive away. Lets NOT make it easy, especially as Insurance companies don’t pay out if vehicles are stolen with the engine running.

PCSO’s have been doing our first Darker Nights engagements, visiting groups such as the Onward clubs Warm Hub meeting on Friday, to talk about crime prevention and keeping safe as the nights start to draw in. We also had the Police Wellbeing Van over the weekend so we stocked up with some giveaways and engaged with residents at Asda & the Co-Op. The light timer switches always go down well and help us to reinforce the message of having a light on whilst you are out. The timer plug means you are not wasting electricity and your lamp will only come on for the time you set it to, I really like this option as it is always welcoming to return home to a lights glow instead of a dark house.

For more tips and information on how to protect your home please visit the WMP virtual reality house 27 Station Road     https://www.west-midlands.police.uk/27stationroad

We will continue to carry some crime prevention goodies with us to our next meetings so check out where you can next find us below under Dates for your Diary.

Whilst I was outside Asda the Chelmsley Team Officers were patrolling the Town Centre & Bus Interchange. This has become a hotspot area for local teenagers to hang out and cause issues. They are riding mopeds anti-socially, hanging around in large groups, which is intimidating for residents and transport passengers, and even committing crimes of theft & robbery. Over the last few weeks a number of our buses have been damaged by youths and this causes disruption to timetables, inconvenience to travellers and great upset to the drivers.

What are the Police doing to tackle this problem?

West Midlands Police receive Home Office Funding to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and crime in identified hotspot areas.  Targeted Guardian Patrols take place at notable times in these recognised areas and have to take place even when the Local Policing Team is not on duty. So please be reassured that on our days off other teams cover this Hotspot area in our absence. Each patrol is recorded and information is returned to the Home Office. The aim of these patrols is to provide a visible presence, deter this type of behaviour & engage with the local community so do stop and have a chat when you see us.

Our team have worked hard to identify members of this group and over the last few days have paid visits to their home addresses. There is good quality CCTV covering the area and all reported incidents are being investigated and action will be taken.
