Weekly News

Dear Resident

Hope you are all well and having a good start to your week. Here’s a quick roundup from your local policing team of some of the work we have been doing over the last couple of weeks in the Blakenall & Birchills Leamore area.

  • We are continuing our mobile and foot patrols in the area of Stephenson Square, Beechdale in response to reports of anti-social behaviour. Members of the team have been using the public transport links to increase our visibility in the area which has also provided reassurance for bus passengers and bus drivers. We take reports of ASB seriously and are committed to ensuring all residents enjoy their right to peace, quiet and security in their homes and neighbourhoods.
  • Patrols are continuing at Reedswood Retail park where we are continually linking in with stores to provide reassurance and follow up on enquiries including checking CCTV to identify anyone involved in this type of behaviour.
  • We have met with West Midlands Fire Service to discuss ways of working together in relation to small fires being set in bins in the area.
  • A couple of our officers were able to visit Bloxwich Academy Primary as part of their school topic ‘Me and My Community’ talking all about the people who help us in the local area. We met with the children of reception class and talked about how police help people and keep people safe.
  • Welcome

We would also like to introduce and welcome Insp Saqib Butt who is the new policing manager with responsibility for the Bloxwich, Blakenall and Birchills Leamore areas. Insp Butt has been part of the policing world for over two decades now, having started his journey back in 2003 at Birmingham’s Stechford Police Station. Since then, he has had the privilege of serving in various roles, including time with the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU).

Insp Butt is looking forward to working with our communities and partner organisations to make our communities safer and stronger.

    Darker Nights

Now the nights are getting darker earlier, make sure you keep yourself and your home safe. If you’re heading out remember to lock up to protect your home.

  • Keep your doors and windows locked whether you’re in or out.
  • If you have an alarm make sure you use it
  • Remove keys from locks and keep out of reach from windows or doors
  • Click here to visit our Darker Nights campaign page for lots of useful advice on keeping yourself, property and vehicles safe.
  • Halloween

As we get closer to Halloween and bonfire night the team will be out and about linking in with local schools, residents, businesses and partner agencies with crime prevention materials and advice.

Halloween can also be a scary time for people who do not like surprises or callers at the door.

Here is our advice for elderly or vulnerable residents:

  • Place the ‘no trick or treats’ card on your door or in your window to help deter trick or treaters. You can download and print your own copy below.
  • If you do receive an unexpected caller at the door do not feel pressured to answer it
  • If you are expecting a delivery or visit from a professional always ask for ID or confirmation of their work place.
  • If you have a door chain make sure it is securely fastened at all times and lock your porch door
  • Be sure to use your spy hole viewer if you have one. If you have one, talk through your wireless video doorbell
  • Download and print off our ‘no trick or treats’ poster.
  • Take care
