Op Sceptre, tackling knife crime.

Last week was Op Sceptre across West Midlands Police, when we concentrate on ways to tackle knife crime and educated our young people about the dangers of carrying a weapon. This falls only a few weeks after a young man lost his life on our streets due to a knife attack, so feels very close to our hearts. The team have carried out knife sweeps in parks and open spaces, searched areas where residents have informed us that groups are hanging out. Taken the knife pole to locations around our area and spoke to youths about the dangers and consequences of carrying weapons. You can learn more about knife crime and the laws around carrying a weapon by clicking here  https://lifeorknife.west-midlands.police.uk/

Remember we have a knife surrender bin at the bottom of the stairwell opposite Chelmsley Wood Town Centre multi storey car park.

Operation Hercules, tackling the boy racers.

Over the weekend we had support from the Force Road Harm Prevention Team to deal with the issue of vehicles racing around the Business Park and along Bickenhill Parkway. We saw results on both evenings with motorists receiving fines for;

  •  Ghost number plates x 8, this is where the plate cannot be read by the ANPR Camera system.
  • Illegal number plates x 6, due to the figuration or sizing of the characters on the plates.
  •  Driving without due care & attention x 3
  • Section 59 warning x 2,  Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 refers to vehicles being used in a manner which causes alarm, distress or annoyance.
  • 1 Driving without insurance
  • Driving through a red light x 2
  • 1 Vehicle having illegal window tints
  • Please keep reporting to us when these vehicles are about, your calls help us to collate evidence so we can ask for support from specialist teams.

    We wrapped up warm tonight for a Streetwatch Patrol and when we met at Chelmunds Cross we bumped into the Boss, Insp Bridgewater, who was out with Chelmsley Wood Response team.

    Working together to make our streets safer.

    If you would like to know more about volunteering with Streetwatch reply to this message or email me at vicki.poole@westmidlands.police.uk
