A QUICK UPDATE FROM THE HILLFIELDS NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM
20/11/24
OVER THE PAST FORTNIGHT YOUR LOCAL NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM HAVE:
Engaged in Operation Sceptre (11-17 November). This brought together all 43 police forces across England and Wales in a week of intensified action nationally which targeted knife crime from the root cause right through to enforcement. Your local neighbourhood team was glad to get involved and support this initiative. We conducted knife sweeps with detecting devices in known weapon stash locations as well as local parks. We also conducted a plain clothes operation targeting known violent offenders in the area. Further to this we also engaged in Guardian foot patrols, this is high visibility patrols of key locations and key times identified from lots of data to best deter future crime and maximise officer’s effectiveness.
Your local Neighbourhood officers and team manager attended a residential meeting at St Peter’s church to discuss local issues in the community.
NEXT WEEKS PLANS:
County Lines week
County lines is a term used to describe gangs and organised criminal networks which export illegal drugs into other areas across the UK, using dedicated mobile phone ‘deal lines’. They do this by recruiting vulnerable people and children. Your local neighbourhood team will be involved in the intervention and prevention of county lines set up’s. We will be proactively policing the area with a clear focus on deterring drug dealing and the abuse of vulnerable people. Our local residents can also play a crucial role in spotting signs of exploitation/drug dealing by reporting them to the police.
Retail crime
Due to Black Friday coming up and the increase of footfall in the town centre in the approach to Christmas your local neighbourhood team will be out on high visibility patrols in the retail areas of our community. This is to deter shop thefts and ensure confidence in business owners. We also understand with high footfall of people comes a chance of increased crime and anti-social behaviour so we will be out on maximum visibility patrols to do our best to ensure this does not happen.
Please note your local neighbourhood team do have much more proactive police work in the pipe line however it would be detrimental to our upcoming investigations and operations to share this information at this time. We will however try to share the results post event via this newsletter.
