Dear Resident Licensing officers in Walsall joined up with special constables as they visited local pubs and licensed premises across the borough to ensure they are providing a safe environment for customers. During the visits, officers took the opportunity to raise awareness about key personal safety scheme including the 'Ask for Angela' scheme and the 'Hollie Guard' personal safety app. The 'Ask for Angela' scheme offers a discreet way for people, particularly those who may be feeling threatened or uncomfortable, to seek assistance in licensed venues such as pubs and clubs. By approaching staff and simply asking for 'Angela', individuals can discreetly alert staff to their need for help. Staff are then trained to assist the person, whether that means contacting the police or providing a safe environment until further support arrives. Additionally, officers promoted the 'Hollie Guard' app, a powerful tool designed to help keep individuals safe. By activating the app, users can alert friends, family, or even the authorities in case of an emergency. The app’s features include real-time tracking, emergency alerts, and an automatic recording feature to provide vital evidence if needed. Walsall Police is committed to working with local businesses and the community to ensure that everyone can enjoy their time out with confidence, knowing that there are resources in place to support them if needed. The initiative, which covered a number of licensed venues throughout the borough, was met with enthusiasm from both customers and staff alike.
