Dear resident, We don’t want to stop you having a drink with family and friends. Christmas is a time for celebration so it’s important we take care of one another. Here are a few tips for staying safe on the road the morning after a night out: - Don't drive if you've been drinking. Alcohol impairs your judgement and reaction time, making it dangerous to drive. - Plan ahead. If you know you're going to be drinking, arrange a ride home before you go out. You can call a taxi, or ask a responsible friend or family member to drive you home safely. - Driving when over the alcohol limit is dangerous and illegal. Many people don’t realise you could still be over the limit 24 hours after your last drink. - Keep cash and taxi numbers to hand. Taxi ranks will be busy so it’s important to have back up options this Christmas -Never accept a drink from someone you don't know or trust, even if they seem friendly and approachable. You have no way of knowing if they have tampered with your drink, and the consequences of consuming a spiked beverage can be severe. If someone offers to buy you a drink, politely decline and suggest that you order your own. - Stay well hydrated, eat healthy foods, and get a good night’s sleep If you see someone who has been drinking and planning to drive home, stop them before it’s too late. Report it to bar staff, tell them you’ll call them a cab, or give us a call on 101. If you’ve been drinking, or taking drugs this Christmas, don’t get behind the wheel not matter how short the journey. You’re not invincible, and neither are the people around you. We don't want to be the ones delivering heart breaking news to families this Christmas. West Midlands Police are working with Transport for West Midlands as part of Operation Triton to make the region’s roads safer.
Enjoy the celebrations and stay safe this festive season. ![]() | ||||
