Dear Resident,
I thought you'd want to know that Aldridge Police are moving to a new base in the town.
In a few months' time, the team will move into more modern offices, better suited to policing in the 21st century. Our preferred location is the town’s fire station on Northgate and talks are currently underway with West Midlands Fire Service (WMFRS).
West Midlands Police already have secure, dedicated office space at community fire stations in other parts of the region. That partnership works well and offers good value for public money, as well as strengthening joint working on shared local priorities.
The Aldridge neighbourhood policing team are currently based in the town’s 1930s police station, on Anchor Road, just one mile away.
The site is increasingly expensive to run and is largely unused as the building is not fit for purpose. The cost of upgrading the site does not make an upgrade a feasible option. The site has been publicly listed for closure for several years.
The public contact office closed around 15 years ago when people stopped using the facility, choosing instead to call us or use our website.
The new offices will have the latest facilities and be closer to those parts of the town with the highest demand for our services.
Once the team move, the old police station will be sold with the money raised going back into policing.
Our plans to close the old Aldridge police station have been well publicised and known about for many years. We’ll be sad to move, but the site is just not for purpose.
We’ve been searching for a new home for the town’s policing team and our preferred location is the fire station.
We are now in the final stages of the talks, but no final decision has yet been made. Our aim is to move by springtime.
Being based there would allow for greater collaboration between the emergency services and the team would be nearer to the part of the town which has the highest demand for our services. The move also offers good value for public money.
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner owns our buildings while the Chief Constable decides how we use them.
