Hi Tyburn Residents,
The Tyburn Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to make you aware of some burglary and vehicle crimes that have taken place in February that we believe you should be aware of.
We received two reports of ‘lock snapping’ burglaries in the Pype Hayes area between 21st and 25th February. Lock Snapping burglaries are where the lock on a door is ‘snapped’ using a lock snapping device to enable entrance to a property. These burglaries are mostly used to gain entrance to obtain car keys to steal a vehicle. During one of these incidents, a vehicle was stolen and during the other incident the offender was disturbed by the resident resulting in no theft taking place.
There have been a number of theft of motor vehicles in the Tyburn area this month. Most of these vehicles have been stolen by ‘unknown’ means, meaning they have not been accessed by using the key and have not had windows smashed to gain access. There have also been a number of ‘theft from motor vehicles’ whereby access has been gained to the vehicles by causing damage to the vehicle to steal items from within. Can we please remind residents not to leave any items on ‘show’ in their vehicles (even empty bags). The offender will not know they are empty and will damage the vehicle to ‘find out’ resulting in expense and inconvenience to the owner. Also, please double check if your vehicle is locked when you leave it as we can all get distracted at times and forget (especially with busy lifestyles and maybe young children to look after).
We are advising all residents to use all of their security measures that they have available, including alarms, security lighting and any vehicle security equipment such as steering wheel locks and parking posts and to remain vigilant at all times.
Kind Regards
PCSO Julie Meer 31032 Tyburn Neighbourhood Team
