Be Sure You’re Secure - Lock Up

Good morning Resident

Hope this WMNow message finds you well!

Here's a quick message for advice on securing your property during this spring time.

It is important to check your doors, windows, and porches are locked.

Many home insurance policies will only cover you for burglaries if you've secured your property properly so don't leave doors unlocked or keys in sight. Some home insurance policies might even require a specific door lock so spend time reviewing your policy.

Most UPVC and composite doors use euro-cylinders. We recommend fitting 3-Star TS007 anti-snap cylinders.

If you’re leaving a vehicle behind, can you add a steering lock or keep your keys in a Faraday pouch? If you don’t have a driveway, leave your car in a well-lit area where your neighbours or CCTV can see it.

Burglars may be after your car keys, so make sure you hide them out of sight—in a safe, a secure drawer, or even take them with you. Can a burglar reach your keys through the letter box? Known as fishing. Do not take keys to bed with you.

You can also charge your video doorbell and use dusk till dawn LED lights so criminals cannot hide in the dark. If you have CCTV, make sure it’s connected to your mobile device and viewed remotely?

As an extra precaution, close your blinds or curtains to make it difficult for anyone to see into your property.

You might not have thought about…

  • If you have a pet, consider securing the cat flap at night or hiding keys in close proximity to this.

  • Removing keys from your doors, especially doors with glass panels, is very important. Most locks can be snapped, or windows broken to turn or grab these keys.

  • Where are your wheelie bins stored? Lock your shed and tools away. Keep ladders secure. Are they next to a low fence or garage roof? If so, move them to somewhere less accessible while you’re away. Make sure you break down boxes or dispose of delivery packaging properly.

  • Don't let burglars know you have expensive game consoles, clothing, and tech in your home.

Hope everyone has a great weekend :)
