Hello, and welcome to your round up from the St Matthew’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, part of Walsall’s Local Policing Area (LPA). Keeping the different communities in St Matthew’s informed of some of the activities that we have done recently.
Some things that we have been doing on our patch recently:
Caldmore Streetwatch met with their designated PCSO from the St Matthew’s team. Both the PCSO and the community volunteers patrolled the local area. Streetwatch members are all volunteers who are doing their bit for the community that they live in. The patrols are managed and co-ordinated by the group themselves and don’t always involve a PCSO. This particular patrol went well with positive engagements with residents from the area.
The team have been conducting a number of crime prevention surgeries in various locations in both Walsall Town Centre and Caldmore. Members of the public were able to drop in discuss and issues that concern them in their community and receive advice and guidance to help them deal with the issues appropriately.
PCSO’s and the new Designated Neighbourhood Officer (DNO) visited a supported living project apartment block, within the St Matthew’s ward. Residents shared ASB issues of concern about their neighbourhood/community. The residence received advice and support from the team to help them with the issues that they raised. The PCSO’s also spoke with the residence about the different ways to contact the Police both force wide and the local policing teams. WMNow sign ups were also made.
When out and about on patrol over the last couple of weeks, various vehicles, of different shapes and sizes, have been identified by the St Matthews Officers as being suspicious. After conducting the appropriate checks, a number of these vehicles were seized for no tax and no insurance.
At the beginning of the month there was a Police traffic Operation on Mellish Road. Over the period of the operation there were 16 speeding offences; 2 drivers without wearing seat belts; 7 vehicles were stopped and drivers spoken with. Appropriate action has been taken against the offending drivers.
Going forward: We are committed to continue meeting with the various communities in St Matthew’s as part of proactive working. We know there are a lot of different community groups within St Matthew’s, if you know of any, who you think would like a visit or chat, please get in touch, it’ll be great to see and hear from you.
