Dear Members, Here’s a quick round up from the South Yardley neighbourhood policing team. What’s been happening: It's been a busy few weeks for our team with supporting other departments and also them supporting us! Here is some of the things we have been getting up to: After the first week of Parking enforcement attending to Yew Tree regarding the concerns around illegal parking. They have since attended a further 2 occasions this resulted into 26 tickets being issued. They will continue to support us with the parking concerns and ticket were possible, including the team. Businesses at the Yew Tree and Swan Shopping Centre were invited to a Business Watch meeting in the last week discussing the ongoing concerns and issues in and around the area and we need of more members to attend these sessions to inform us of what is happening. We will be sure to go to the stores and speak with those to get them to come along. Empowered Steps is now scheduled 5th October at 10:30 in Oakland's Recreational Ground. Meeting point is behind the Skate park. We are continuing to tackle the begging in and around the area. Since the last update more individuals have been served; Community Protection Warnings (CPW) or Community Protection Notice (CPN). We are asking those that wish to give those money to seek other resources to support those in need. This can be through Billy Chip https://www.billychip.com/how-it-works or other local support. All involved are being offered services to support them and their individual needs from us and partner agencies. If you know anyone in need of support for being homeless or if they have addictions; we have a drop-in session on every Wednesday at 12:00 at Acock's Green Police station on Alexander Road. Acock's Green Baptist Church also offers tea and coffee mornings at the same time. We have seen a reduction in this as a result and we are now working on getting the rubbish left behind removed. Our team have also been intercepting more drugs through Royal Mail. In one week alone, our team have recovered 22 packages containing Cannabis all of which have now been sent for destruction. This is an amazing result and we will continue to work with partners closely to ensure these are not reaching our streets. During this week, we also had a report from a member of public concerns around youths were attacking someone near to the Coventry Road. As a result of joint work from the team, drones, firearms and Response officers, 3 males were arrested and found in possession of various weapons. All weapons seized and further enquiries lead to a 4th arrest. 3 males were charged and the 4th was no further actioned. This was an amazing result for the team and the work everyone did involved in securing the weapons and successfully charging those involved. A prolific shoplifter that has been attending to the area has also been arrested. Further updates will be provided on this once they have been obtained. We have sent out an ASB survey to one location to assist us in understanding what is going on in the area. This information we review to support us in organising operations, warrants, closure orders etc… If you get this, please could we request you fill this in. We will be looking at trying to do more of these going forward to get a true understanding of what is happening and going on locally. Keep your eyes peeled for this. We are now doing this via QR code that can be scanned and there is an online form to be completed. We know not everyone is able to have this type of access and we will adapt where possible, for those to ensure they have their say. We will continue to keep you updated on the work we are doing in and around the area. If you want to make us aware of anything please contact us below.
