The West Midlands Police team for Wednesfield and Heath Town has recently issued specific "WMnow" alerts regarding residential security, particularly focusing on patio and back doors following a series of attempted break-ins in the WV11 and WV10 areas.
Sample WMnow Alert: Patio & Back Door Security "Your local neighbourhood team is urging residents in Wednesfield and Heath Town to stay alert and secure your patio doors. We have seen an increase in offenders targeting the rear of properties, often attempting to 'snap' locks or exploit unsecured sliding doors while residents are in another part of the house or garden. Please ensure all rear entrances are double-locked, even when you are home." Key Security Advice for Wednesfield & Heath Town Residents
Local officers recommend the following specific steps for the WV11/WV10 area: Lock Snapping Prevention: Most patio doors use Euro-cylinder locks. Police recommend upgrading to TS007 3-star rated or Sold Secure Diamond anti-snap cylinders to prevent the most common method of entry. Patio Bolts: If you have older sliding doors, fit an additional surface-mounted patio lock or "bolt" at the top and bottom of the frame to prevent the door from being lifted off its tracks. The "Double-Lock" Check: Many uPVC doors require you to lift the handle and turn the key to fully engage the multi-point locking system. If you don't turn the key, the door may only be held by a simple latch. Garden Visibility: Keep hedges and fences at the rear of your property trimmed to around 4ft. High, overgrown hedges provide cover for someone trying to force a back door. Sensor Lighting: Ensure your back garden has PIR (motion sensor) lighting directed at the patio doors to deter offenders. How to Report Concerns in Wednesfield
If you see someone acting suspiciously in rear alleyways or looking over garden fences: Non-Emergency: Use the WMP Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk or call 101. Crime in Progress: If you hear glass breaking or see a forced entry, call 999 immediately.
