Good Afternoon Residents, Warmer Weather Crime Prevention Tips from West Midlands Police Keeping your house and garden safe with hot weather coming this June. With hot weather arriving this June, West Midlands Police are warning residents that opportunistic criminals actively target households cooling down their properties. It takes less than 30 seconds for a walk-in thief to exploit an unsecured home or garden. Follow these critical security adjustments for the summer heatwave:- Securing the House Close ground floor windows: Shut windows entirely in unoccupied front rooms or when heading upstairs, even if you are trying to air out the property.Hide keys and handbags: Keep keys, electronics, and wallets well away from open window sills or doors where they can be fished out or reached from outside.Lock up while gardening: Lock your front door and front windows securely if you are spending time relaxing or working out back in the rear garden.Dusk ventilation: Only leave windows open for air circulation during the cooler night hours, ensuring they are on restricted safety latches. Securing the Garden Rake up defences: Lock up all tools, ladders, and shears inside a secure shed or garage; thieves will use your own garden tools to smash or pry open your home windows.Double-bolt gates: High side-gates should be bolted securely from the inside to cut off access routes into your rear garden.Anchor furniture: Secure expensive barbecues or garden furniture to ground anchors or move them inside locked outbuildings when not in use.
