Watching the match tonight? Give yourself extra time |
||
|
If you’re planning to have a few drinks while watching the game tonight, remember you could still be over the limit the next morning. The 2026 World Cup means later kick-offs, longer nights out and more people celebrating with friends, in pubs and at home. Major sporting tournaments lead to increased drinking and socialising – and that means a potential risk in drink driving offending. We’re asking everyone to give yourself extra time. Even if you feel fine the next day, alcohol may still be in your system. It leaves your body slowly and no amount of coffee, fresh air or a cold shower will speed it up. Why the morning after matters We’ll have extra officers on the roads throughout the tournament - especially in the mornings - to catch drink and drug drivers. There’s no “safe amount” Drug driving Officers can test for drugs at the roadside and at the station. If they believe your driving is impaired, you can be arrested. The consequences Causing death while driving under the influence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Make the choice that keeps everyone safe Just don’t drive if you’ve been drinking or think you may still be under the influence – not tonight, and not the morning after.
